Deputy Commissioner, Ashika Jain initiated separate action today to ensure that there is no loss of life or property due to inclement weather. After monitoring the overnight rescue operations by the administrative teams, they called a meeting early this morning and visited Derabassi and Kharar subdivisions and asked authorities to ensure strict arrangements as well as respond quickly to emergency/rescue calls.
The Deputy Commissioner, who reviewed relief operations and water drainage activities at a high-level meeting held early Sunday morning, instructed authorities to act immediately on emergency/rescue calls and expedite water drainage in urban and rural areas. Said to remove the obstacles in the smooth flow of rainwater. He told local governments and panchayat departments to ensure they take immediate action on critical points. He emphasized that the people of the district have high expectations from the administration in this hour of crisis, so we need to look into their problems immediately in this hour of difficulty.
They asked the administrative team to urgently identify low lying areas and unplanned colonies where water drainage needs immediate attention. Those MCs and SDMs were asked to ensure alternate mobile numbers in addition to existing landlines for respective districts, subdivisions and municipal control rooms. They said waterlogging could interrupt landline services, so we should be prepared for other communication plans. They said action should be taken immediately whenever they receive a disturbing call from any of these men. Power stations and other such emergency service areas should be water-free on a first come first serve basis to ensure essential services.
Appreciating the officers deployed on duty for the last 24 hours they said that time demands honesty and dedication to our duty, so we have to work together till the situation is under control. They said we are continuously monitoring the flow of Ghaggar and Sukhna Chow in Derabassi sub division and many sandbags including manpower are present in case of any emergency at critical point of village Tiwana. “We are constituting six NDRF teams as a precaution to reduce processing time, who will be deployed in Mohali and other subdivisions, he further said. One of these teams will be deployed at Tiwana Point of Ghaggar dam. Apart from Ghaggar, rescue operation has been carried out by VNDRF team at village Rourka in Mohali. “
They said, “The buses have been stationed and prepared at each sub-divisional headquarters for the immediate use of the buses for emergency rescue operations. Similarly, medical teams, livestock department teams have been asked to stand by in advance. ”Residents adjacent to Ghaggar and Sukhna Chowk of those districts were urged to be vigilant in view of rising water flow. Later DC Ashika Jain also visited Kharar and Derabassi sub-divisions and assessed rescue operations.
In addition ADCs Damanjit Singh Mann, Parmdeep Singh, Amit Kumar Bambi, SDMz Himanshu Gupta Derabassi, Ravinder Singh Kharar and Sarabjit Kaur Mohali including DRO Gurjinder Singh Banipal and Axion Drainage Rajat Grover also remained steadfast in the field to monitor rescue operations. Municipal councils working officers and BDPOs have also been engaged in rescue operations since yesterday.
DC Ashika Jain further said, “We have the required number of boats and other rescue materials like dry ration, medicines, fuel etc and we are tackling almost all the difficulties on a first priority basis.” “
He said that the district administration had already issued mobile helplines in addition to existing landlines-Mohali-0172-2219505, Derabassi-01762-283224, Kharar-0160-2280853. In case of malfunction of landline, any mobile numbers can dial, Mohali – 76580-51209, 73476-61642, Kharar-94642-34000 and Derabassi – 98550-25466, 79733-60184.
